About this class
This class is for primary school children who are beginning their reading journey, or who need some extra help learning to read, write and spell. It introduces basic language and decoding rules, to help children to sound out and spell unfamiliar words. It also inspires a love of learning and literacy appreciation that’s essential to success at school.
Little Code Cracker classes focus on:
- Recognising letters and their most common sound
- Being able to participate in phonemic awareness activities (blending, segmenting and manipulating sounds)
- Reading and spelling one syllable words
- Enhancing language skills by encouraging children to express their ideas and observations
- Learning the meaning of new words, building upon children’s vocabulary
- Use the correct pencil grip, starting point and formation when writing letters
- Develop greater confidence and self-esteem as they achieve and share their success.
Children will receive:
- Kids Ink tote bag
- Personally named book to keep all weekly work
- Access to a range of decodable readers
- Weekly resources and activities to complete at home to consolidate learning.
Typical age group of students are 5,6 and some 7 year olds
Class frequency:Â 1 class per week (45 min)
Class Time: Thursday 3:45pm-4:30pm
