Lovin’ Literacy

Service Description

Class frequency: 1 class per week (45 min) Class times: Tuesdays, Thursdays 4.45-5.30pm Cost: per session $35 Typical age of learners will be from 7-9 years of age. A more advanced class for children who have a solid understanding of the basic alphabetic code (letters a-z) and are now ready to master the extended code (double consonants, consonant digraphs) and the vowel code needed to correctly interpret the written language. This class includes the six key components of effective reading instruction, along with the necessary handwriting instruction to help kids master the art of the written language. Lovin’ Literacy classes focus on: • Mastering the extended and vowel codes • Advanced phonemic awareness skills (manipulating sounds in words) • Reading and spelling polysyllabic words • Reading targeted texts fluently • Learning the meaning of new words, building upon their vocabulary • Enhancing language skills by encouraging students to express their ideas and observations • Develop greater confidence and self-esteem as they achieve and share their success. Children will receive: • Tote bag • Personally named book to keep all weekly work • Access to a range of decodable readers • Weekly resources and activities to complete at home to consolidate learning.
