Artefacts: Completed paper-clay vessel and large-scale paper-clay sculpture
This term we will be completing a large scale sculptural piece. Taking inspiration from some examples on display, artists will be assisted with the design and planning of their own piece, before constructing an appropriate form. The group will then learn how to make their own paper-clay and use this, along with other papier-mâché techniques, to complete their individual pieces. There will be a major focus on sustainability, with the use of waste paper, cardboard, single-use plastics and glass bottles. Artists will learn that they can create amazing artworks/items using things that would otherwise be discarded.

The term-long project will help develop the following key skills and abilities:
Gross and fine motor skills, proprioception, bilateral coordination, hand/eye coordination, motor planning, decision making, mindfulness, emotional regulation, non-verbal communication, cognition, self-expression, self-confidence, creativity, imagination, problem solving, teamwork, social skills, communication skills, and cognitive flexibility.
Artists will also gain a deeper understanding of artistic elements such as colour, line, shape, and form etc, as well as the fundamental principles of design such as balance, proportion, and emphasis. They will also learn the importance of developing a consistent artistic practice to develop their skills and build their confidence as emerging artists.
